after several threats were made at several high schools. kennedy middle school and linbrook high school in san jose and were directed against a teacher in cupertino and forced a lock down at a elementary school. ktvu's ann rubin joins us with what authorities found. authorities found no bomb here at the school but there will be arrests when they find the people responsible for the threats. investigators are calling it -- >> reporter: investigators are calling it a hoax and a crime. >> people are messing around and things like that you shouldn't joke around about. >> it is not funny. >> reporter: authorities shut down the high school and the elementary school next door and three bomb sniffing dogs made

we have breaking news to tell you about out of oakland. a live picture. police and emergency crews responded to a homicide in a residential area. these pictures are live from east oakland. this is happening at 83 avenue and "d" street. the victim is an adult male. police have one block of 83 street shut down for their investigation. no word on suspects or a motive in this case. we will follow this situation and keep you updated. the police chief will become the official police chief next week. he has been the active chief for five months and face as stuff job as community back lash continues over officer involved shooting. he will be coming out of reenvironment.

he plans on -- retirement. he hopes to leave the force in better shape than he found it. a journey has come to an end for john mcafee who arrived in the u.s. last night from guatemala. he was deported to the u.s. this morning he denied murdering his neighbor and said his trouble began when he refused to pay a bribe. >> began last year when soldiers stormed my property, shot my dog in the head. troyed my -- destroyed my home. >> u.s. authorities haven't questioned john mcafee and don't plan to. he will talk to authority physical they come to the u.s.

dropping manslaughter charges. the bus struck and killed a nurse in a sidewalk. the bus driver told police she didn't see her. the bus was traveling 7 miles an hour. investigators say the bus video recorder showed the afternoon sun caused visibility problems that intersection. san francisco seen a rise in domestic violence cases this year. ktvu's david stevenson shows us a new campaign to turn the trend around. >> reporter: san francisco officials launched a peace at home campaign to reduce domestic violence cases. >> we know from years of experience and data suggested to us that domestic violence goes up during the holidays.

right now, police are at the scene of a homicide, 83 avenue and "d" street. one block of 83 avenue remains closed as investigators go over the scene. no word on the victim or what occurred here. police are saying it is a homicide. the king tides moved coastal waters close to urban areas today and will do so again tomorrow. this is a glimpse of what could be permanent in years to come. ktvu's jade hernandez is live to explain this. >> reporter: today's king tides pushed the waters to 7.9 feet. you can see where the waters hit the rocks earlier today. in other areas, experts walked through watery trails around

complete bay area news coverage continues right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. a homeless woman found dead in a creek as advocates remind us the perils the homeless face every day. it appears the death may be a deliberate attack. ktvu's robert handa is live where the people who are ignored are being remembered. we are in the neighborhood where police have been investigating this death. initially police reported the

body of a adult female was found. the body was actually found floating in this creek. >> reporter: on most days homeless people gather in san jose but not today. a woman known to have live here was found face down in the water wednesday afternoon. police call it suspicious. friends say she was a drug addict. >> she is a nice person. she will do a lot for a lot of people. she went out there, you know, she has a few enemies from things she has done. >> reporter: the latest death had an impact on a memorial to remember the homeless who died on the streets this year. they conducted the ceremony where leaders read the names of names of the deceased.

victim moved to the bay area in october. police say the victims and suspects were acquainted. a san francisco police officer is facing a inquiry after a video showed up on facebook that shows him speeding through the broadway tunnel. we showed you the video yesterday. the title of the video on facebook says the driver is going 100 miles per hour in a sports car. but in an e-mail the sergeant denied the car was going this fast. the speed limit is per hour. marshawn lynch called it -- mayor ed lee called it dangerous and irresponsible. >> if we can get any link to who is responsible, that should be stopped. >> he e-mailed a comment saying everyone in the car was drunk tongue and cheek.

there has been a homicide. a live picture from news chopper 2. police are on the scene at 83 avenue and "d" street. police say a man was shot to death there about 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. one block of 83 avenue has been shut down during the investigation. no word on any suspects and the man's identity hasn't been released. we are making calls on the story and we will bring you an update on the ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00 p.m. a bill that makes it tougher for people to track your location through your cell phone. it would close a loophole that allows people to put an app on someone's phones ask tells them where that person is. it would impose penalties for doing that without the phone user's permission. parents are exempt for tracking minor children. program offering free flu shots for bay area children.

there haven't been sightings of governor jerry brown since he announced yesterday he is being treated for prostate cancer. he is in the bay area for the treatment where he will keep a full work schedule. ktvu's ken pritchett joins us live from san francisco where there is speculation governor jerry brown could make an appearance tonight. >> reporter: he will have his 80 80th birthday party. i talked to a spokesman who

says the governor was invited but it is unclear if he will attend but we know that one day after the announcement that governor jerry brown promised he remains on the job. we have seen a slew of announcements over the past few weeks, yesterday they announced he would undergo radiation for prostate cancer. his doctors saying prognosis is excellent. it is the second time he faced a cancer fight with a skin cancer removed from his nose last year. he says politically speaking the health concerns may matter less to voters than the governor. >> if he was considering another term this might say do i want to spend the time and energy to be governor of california or maybe it is

somebody else's turn. brown's prostate cancer treatment is expected to be completed in january. that will be a very busy month for the governor. in san francisco, ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. nadia lockier's restraining order against an ex-boyfriend expired. mean time she remains in a drug rehab center. she is the wife of bill lockier. he filed for divorce. an audit report accused the board of supervisors of misusing funds. he used his county credit card for things not related to county business, restaurant meals and $4,000 for two bicycles. he agreed to reimburse some

expenses but challenging others. the court of appeals ruled that california has the right to make a cut in payments to medi- cal providers. they made the cuts to balance the budget. they approved them but a group of doctors and other providers sued and a lower court blocked the cuts. the court of appeals over turned that ruling. regulators are hailing a plan as a compromise between development goals and environmental protections. they approved a plan that will give more control to local governments. the focus will be on redeveloping older properties using environmentally friendly building practices. some say it mangles past protections. southern california is bracing for more wet, chilly

just in time for the holidays, officials launched a crack down on drunk driving. >> the campaign is called drive sober or get pulled over and features ads warning police will be watching for drunk drivers. they released new numbers showing alcohol related traffic deaths fell last year to 9800. in california 774 people died in drunk driving crashes last year. that is the same as 2010. parents are being warbed about a -- warned about a stroller. it effected baby jogger strollers. they were manufactured this year between may and august.
